This project is made using 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC.

  • 3/4" x 10' PVC Sch 40 pipe
  • 3/4" PVC Sch 40 Tee - Socket - 4
  • 3/4" PVC Sch 40 90˚ Elbow - Socket - 8
  • PVC Cement (clear)
  • Paint - your choice
  • Feet - your choice
  • hand or power miter saw to cut pipe square
  • measuring tape
  • pencil or marker
  • PVC cement - clear cement will look best.
Time to cut:

Start by measuring the length, width, and height of your laptop. To determine the correct length of each section of pipe, measure the depth of the fitting socket. For 3/4" fittings, it is 3/4". Use a miter saw if possible to ensure your cuts are square. Start with the bottom section of the frame and cut the pipe to fit the length of the laptop with 1/2" or so extra to allow for inserting and removing the computer. Once you are happy with the length of pipe along one side, cut identical pieces for the other side. Continue this way for the upright supports. Be sure to de-burr the outside cut edges of the pipe before solvent cementing.

Pre-assembly and solvent cementing.

Trial fit the frame together on a flat surface to make sure it is square and sits flat. Mark using a pencil or removable marker where pipe and fittings meet. This will ensure that when you cement the assembly together, the frame will remain square and flat. Remember, PVC solvent cement dries very quickly so be sure of the alignment. Once the cement has cured, you can leave it white or use a spray paint specially formulated for plastics . You can add some rubber or vinyl feet to the bottom of the frame to prevent it from slipping.
